Ever wanted to visit Mexico? This is the perfect guide on places to
visit across the Riviera Maya. Also known as the Mayan Riviera, it is a
touristic strip 86 miles long located in the north-east coast of the country
and recognised as the ‘Mexican Caribbean’.
The weather is sunny all year round with average temperature highs of
30°C/86°F. The highest temperatures are registered between the months of May
and September and can reach up to 32°C/90°F. There are 2 rainy seasons per year
in the Riviera Maya during the months of October – January and April – June,
however this can be a great refresher during the heat of the day.
What to see at Riviera Maya
Puerto Morelos
Considered as the gateway to the Riviera Maya, Puerto Morelos offers several
sites of interest including; the “Reefs of Puerto Morelos” a Natural Marine
Park which has a broad variety of tropical fish, dolphins and turtles, not to
mention the stunning coral reefs. Puerto Morelos is perfect for couples because
of its relaxed vibe.
Akumal
In the Mayan language,
Akumal means “place of turtles” and is still a preferred place for them to lay
their eggs. This makes it a great destination for tourists and divers because
they can visit the Turtle Sanctuary Beach situated just south of Akumal
Playa Del Carmen
The old fisherman’s village of Playa Del Carmen offers everything from
classic Mexican bars, shopping centres, restaurants that serve traditional
cuisine to water sports and golf. La Quinta Avendia translated as “The Fifth
Avenue” is the main town which provides plenty of dining options which make it
the perfect location for meeting your friends after a long day enjoying the
beach.
Xcaret
An attraction destination like no other, visitors arrive at Xcaret to
absorb the impressive history, relax on the beaches, float down one of two
underground rivers, swim with dolphins or walk through jungle covered
landscapes.
If sun holidays are what you’re looking for then the
Riviera Maya could be a perfect destination for you. However it is always nice
to compare holidays with lots of interesting destinations
the world over.
